Running your own business can feel like you’re working 25/8. It can be difficult to keep on top of your obligations inside and outside of work. Here are the apps that help me organise my life as the head of creative marketing in a small business inside and outside of the office.
Trello
Trello is a free resource that I use to keep track of projects and connect with my clients. It allows me to collaborate with different teams an clients - keeping all the project resources in one, accessible spot.
I also use it to orgnaise my life outside of work! My financial planner loves to say ‘run your household like a business’ and that inspired me to keep track of all things in my life on trello. I have a board for recipes, planning holidays, and weekly tasks.
Google Calendar
Any calendar app is a godsend in my opinion. I have a shared calendar set up for my home and then I’ve synced my work’s outlook calendar and with my google calendar too so I can access all the important information everywhere, all the time!
Bonus points for keeping everything colour coordinated.
Reminders
Being part of the apple ecosystem (I’ve accepted that I will never leave) means that it syncs everything across my devices seamlessly. My favourite app Apple has ever produced is Reminders. With Categories, time reminders, a section for notes ugh - amazing! Chefs kiss! You can make them recurring - beautiful! They also pop up on every device - so if I’m in a meeting without my phone my laptop still gets a notification - this works when your phone is on do not disturb too!
Love, love love! Give me 14 of them right now!!
Outlook
I have a love hate relationship with outlook - but I manage so many email accounts and calendars working between multiple businesses that it just makes sense to still work from outlook - I can manage all my accounts from one spot and I automate emails when I need to, template replies and make custom email signatures.
Notes
I LOVE writing in my notebook all the time - priorities, tasks, reminders, random brain dumps - it’s for when I'm feeling more creative. The notes APP however - now that is where my brain runs rampant. I’m definitely more proficient when typing and it’s much easier to read my notes back on the screen than trying to decipher my ‘doctor's handwriting’. Once I’ve done my creative brain dump on paper, the next step is to develop this into a strategic plan with structure and direction. There is something mentally less daunting writing in notes than there is writing in a word doc – I hope that’s not just me
There are so many organisation and productivity apps out there - I utlise these all alongside my physical diary from mi goals and my daily notebook from muji. These 5 help me stay on top of projects and keep my clients in the loop.
If you have anything you’d like to share or a blog post you want to request I’d love to know!
